2015年4月GemGire的代码被提交给Apache孵化器作为孵化项目。但是这个开源是基于Gemstone 20年的技术积累，还有大量的金融用户（世界500强绝大多数客户都在用Gemfire）的实践还有很多通信、销售等行业的生产环境使用。
作为世界规模最大的实时交易系统之一12306就是使用的GemFire。
